Welcome to our Monday Motivational at Betty Bees Buzz!!


Today I will be showing you how to do Spirelli or 'string art'.

For some of you this may be a new technique and for some, just a reminder of a technique we sometimes forget to use. This is such an easy technique allowing you to make various designs to work with your project.

The first thing you need is your template. This can be cut with any cutting machine, manual or electric. What also works well too are Nestibilities. Don't forget to do a search online for free templates.

For my sample I used a pattern from one of my Nestibilities.

Tape the end of your string to the back of the template. I keep the string on the spool since I have no idea how much I will need.

As you can see from the photo, you start by bringing the string to the front and depending on your design, bring it down and then under the cardstock to your point B. Bring it up so you start again at the next groove to the starting point. Bring that down to your new 'B' and go under and keep going. You will notice the string crosses over.

When I do my design, I keep going until there 'diamond' shapes for each groove. This also helps me keep track should I get distracted.

Depending where you bring your part A to meet part B will determine how much space you have in the middle. By bringing the string from A to B close, you will have more space in the middle to add whatever you would like.

Here is a different edged shape.

Here are two cards I made using a cut from my Lacy Labels cartridge. By changing the size on my Design Studio, I was able to get an oval shape.

The center for this one was just big enough to fit the flowers in. The center was done using my I-Top!

Using the original shape, a circle, I designed this to have a larger opening.

I would like for you to notice that I cut little slits on this template to hold the string. This allowed me to used this super cool cut and not have my string move on me.

HoneyBee Showcase February 9

Ribbons..ribbons..everywhere ribbons!!!..Our challenge this week at BettyBees Buzz was to be creative with ribbon!..I thought it would be fun to do a card with braided ribbon in 3 different colors and since I needed a birthday card, I was set to rock the challenge!!..

I use a glass 12 x 12 'mat' on my work table and this allowed me to tape the 3 ribbons for easy braiding.

Buzz Brag and Be Happy Friday 2/3

I am so excited to share with you my fun SWARM weekend in Punta Gorda!!..Last weekend, our Miss Betty had one of her awesome SWARMs and I had the opportunity to host 'Rosie's Casino'. This is just what I needed after spending time in the hospital. Of course, it also gave me the motivation to get well and though I was not quite there, I was well enough to go, host and have a blast!!..
On a previous SWARM, I had mentioned that the Chippndales were going to be at Rosie's Casino and guess what...the 'chipsndales' were there! I found clipart online of the Chip and Dale, printed them on 8 1/2 x 11 and cut. A little added Copic was used to highlight some of the features. I then saved some that had various hats and using my Paint Shop Pro, cropped the hat, sized it to fit my 'guys' and then glittered them up. Now, you know they needed clothes!!..I made templates of the bow ties and 'briefs', scanned them and then had my Make The Cut cut them for me. Taking a $10.00 bill from my husband, I scanned that and sized it for tucking in...lol..

Now, what would the point be having them there if they weren't going to dance??!! I was going to dance with them, but breathing was not too good for me that day. So, Betty was sweet enough to do her thing with 'my guys'!!! You can't hear the song to well, but it's 'I like to Move It'...How can you not 'move it' when you hear that song?!!..lol..

After a day of games, fun and prizes, we had chocolate covered cherries and non-alcoholic champagne!

HoneyBee Showcase Feb. 2

Our challenge this week at Betty Bees Buzz was to do something in hearts!!..Also, Betty had shown us a site belonging to Valita who does the most awesome cards with hearts that I thought I would take her idea for inspiration and run in a different direction with it.

I took the heart and flipped it so now it became a circus tent!!..If you look at Valita's site, you notice that her hearts are cut and folded to make his and her clothing. Not sure why I pictured it upside down and tent, but here is my take on her project.  Thank you Valita for the inspiration!!

not sure if you can see inside the tent, but that's a gorilla (who got away) sticker..lol..

HoneyBee Showcase 1-26

What a fun technique I just learned!!..Thank you to Tori for showing us how to do any easy silhouette on Betty Bees Buzz Motivation Monday.

I found a Christmas photo of Ian and mom puckering up to kiss.  How perfect!!  After cutting out the two heads, I pained them with Americana Deco Art acrylic paint.  So easy!!!  After it was dried, I then painted in the opposite direction.

Buzz Brag and Bee Happy 1/21

I would like to share with you an album I did, along with my daughter-in-law, back in 2004.  It all started when Jeff and Sam returned from NYC with two cute China doll dresses for Nina to wear.  We thought how fun it would be to bring Nina to Epcot and dress her themed for each country.  I would like to mention that I do not sew, but was able to make her a kimono!! I just love iron on binding..lol This was a two day affair with Jeff joining us the second day.  Nina was so good at allowing us to change her clothes and allowing cast members to hold and interact with her.  The girl from Morocco dressed Nina with clothing from their store and my heart melted when I saw her and swelled to see people standing around as if Nina were a celebrity. When we arrived at England, the girl there dressed Nina in a dress that cost about $150.00!!..Wow, what a fun surprise since I couldn’t buy it to dress her in. Nina was just learning to stand so we were excited to get her standing up ‘holding’ the lion in China. This album was also done before I knew off all the scrapbooking supplies out there and maybe that is why this is my favorite, because I created it.  The first album I ever did was the baby shower; this was my second or third album.

Wow..where have I been.  I am just now realizing that the online program I used for videos is no longer available.  First chance I get, I need to fix this!!

hospital

Just a quick message to all my visitors...I'm still in the hospital.  I was admitted the day after Christmas and didn't expect any 'other' problems.  As it turned out, I have MRSA.

HoneyBee Showcase 12/15

It's that time of the year when ovens are heating up ready for those tasty treats to bake. Except for when you make RUM BALLS!! No baking required and so simple to do. I haven't made these in a couple of years, but I promissed my husband I would make some for him to bring to work. Though these can be made anytime, I always chose Christmas as my time to do them. On Motivation Monday, HoneyBee Beth shared with us a yummy cookie recipe. So, today we are sharing our yummy treat with you!

For my rum balls, I used walnuts and light corn syrup. I chose not to use cocoa.

Buzz, Brag and Be Happy Friday at Betty Bee's Buzz 12/10

Another fun day at Betty Bee's Buzz!! I can't wait to see what the HoneyBee's have for us today! 

The other day a neighbor asked if I would put into a frame a prayer she wanted to give her daughter.  She brought over a 4x6 frame and I suggested an 8 x 10 would be better.  When I found out the daughter loves pink, I suggested a black frame; I love that color combo, don't you?

I used my own design from my Creative Liberties wall plaque I made, to design this frame for my friend.  Using WORD, I printed out the prayer to the size I wanted to display inside the frame. I had so much fun 'decorating' this and was pleased with the end result.  My neighbor was so delighted and was very sweet with her compliments to me.

HoneyBee Showcase 12/8

First I would like to thank EAD Designs for being our sponsor at Betty Bee's Buzz this week!!  For my challenge, I chose these cute and easy to use birthday sentiments.  I love that they are repositionable since I usually don't get it right the first time.  I also used one of my 'new' toys!..Sew Easy and guess what?  It is easy!  I am not a sewer, but this tool did two things for me.  First, it allowed me to stitch on my cardstock since I have no luck with my mini sewing machine. Second, because this is hand done and takes time, it made me sit down and relax!..I was surprised how relaxing it was and I was able to watch a Christmas movie on TV!  For my tag, I used a Cuttlebug cut and emboss plate.  Then, using my second 'new' toy, I made a brad with I-Top using a piece of the same paper that I stitched.  Don't you just love easy placement stickers and new toys to make a quick card?

Buzz, Brag and Bee Happy Friday at Betty Bee's Buzz

I love Buzz, Brag and Be Happy Fridays!!..It gives me a chance to Buzz and or Brag. As for being Happy, why not? Sure beats being down in the dumps. I would like to share with you a card I made using a digital stamp from our sponsor, Fred, She Said. This is the first time I'm using a pre-colored image and I must say, I found my new love!..The colors are so vivid when printed they just make my card come alive. Because I used matted cardstock, I used a light coating of Liquid Glass over the cardinal. I printed the stamp twice and cut out the holly and cardinal which was then popped for dimension. I love how this digital stamp also came with a colored background. I used Nestibilities for perfect framing of my digital stamp. I love coloring and have so many different mediums to accomplish the job. However, for the color and time this digital saved me, I will now be looking at more of those pre-colored stamps from Fred, She Said.

HoneyBee Showcase 12/01-Cute Emma

I was so thrilled to see Fred She Said was going to be our sponsor at Betty Bee's Buzz!..Always loved Tracy's digital designs and now I get to add Emma to my collection.  My first project using Emma is a card.  She was painted in with Yasuiomo Pearlescent Watercolor set which gives a real petty glimmer look.  For dimension on her dress and hat, I used Liquid Pearls by Ranger.  Once I added Stickles, she was done!  My flowers were cut with a Martha Stewart punch, Flower Soft in the center and Stickles to make them sparkle.  The colors look off some, but the 'reds' really do match..lol

For this next project, I flipped Emma so she would be facing in the other direction.  I decided to make a little 'note pad' for my granddaughter, Nina.   She was colored in using my General's Pastel Chalk pencils. For the 'snow', I used Liquid Pearls by Ranger.  As you can see, Stickles was used in various places.

New Wall Plaque

On Monday, Betty showed us how to use vinyl cut from our Cricuts over at Betty Bees Buzz.  It was time for me to make a new wall plaque for my craft room and decided now would be the time and use the vinyl technique.  I found a frame on sale at Michaels that I knew would work perfectly.  The frame is a 10 x 13 so I had to think of how using my 12x12 paper would work.  After covering the background with DCWV cardstock, I added a flower border to disguise the added cardstock.

Using Design Studio, I welded my letters from the Songbird cartridge and cut at 2 3/4 inches.  Using painters type to transfer onto the glass worked really well.  I just had to lift a small section of the first letter to get it started.  Before I removed the tape, I used my fingers to make sure the vinyl had a good hold to the glass.  The saying was done with the computer and popped on the glass.

Now it was time to add a pretty corner border. Keeping with my fun color scheme of pink and orange, my project was not completed.

Our Dance

I can not begin to tell you how special it was for me to be dancing with my son at his wedding.  When we discussed what song should be played, my first thought was Baby Mine from the movie Dumbo.  Ok, so it's a cartoon, but boy do I cry when that scene comes on.  As it turned out, Elizabeth found the song on the internet to play so Joey could hear it.  Needless to say, I started crying like a mama fool.  I realized that would be the wrong song because I did not want to cry while dancing with my son and if I did, well if people are like me seeing a mom cry, they would cry too.  So, my second choice was the lullaby theme from Rosemary's Baby.  I found the most beautiful instrumental that lasted all of about 1 minute.  Guess I need to watch the movie again to see where this was played.  Since this was a wedding on October 31st and Joey is my baby (even though he is the oldest, both my boys are my babies), how much better could it get to play this song!  When it came time to dance, the MC included the name of the song as I requested; it was perfect!!  I was so taken by the moment, I have no idea what was so funny that it had me laughing.

Christmas House

At the SWARM last weekend, I was told I would have a project to do.  I had no idea what that project was until this paper mache house was handed to me.  Kristi and Betty painted the houses brown, so mine was done for me.  Did you ever have one of those moments where you look at something and say 'what am I going to do with this?'  Well, that's what happened to me.  Betty and Kristi bought loads of  decorative ornaments, but I still had no idea of where I was going with my project. 

The roof was the problem.  How do I cover this roof??  I used a Martha Stewart punch and made strips and more strips until every section was covered.  Not an easy task.  After choosing my paper, I found myself going into the gingerbread look, so that is what I ran with.  Thanks to Betty, I have a fireplace!..Though I did mumble under my breath a few times, ok, maybe out loud too, I am please with the end result.  I think we all need a challenge once in a while, and this was my challenge.  Mission accomplished!!

November 2010 SWARM!!

What a fun weekend I had in Punta Gorda for Miss Betty's, Cricuteers in Paradise SWARM!!..Our theme was Angels Among Us and the ladies I had the pleasure of sharing my weekend with are angels.  There was something for everyone between the learning, sharing, good food (yummy snacks) and lots of laughs. 

I worked on a project that I will share with you later this week!

Wedding Card

Hi Everyone!!..I wanted to share with you the wedding card I made for Joey and Elizabeth.  For those that don't know, my son got married on October 31, 2010 to the sweetest girl, Elizabeth.  Before I show you the card, I would like to share with you a photo of this beautiful couple.
